Problem Moving Symantec Endpoint Protection to New Server

Monday, March 28th, 2011 | Symantec Endpoint Protection | Cathy Spears

Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) makes it easy to manage Symantec Endpoint Protection in your IT infrastructure.  If you need to move SEPM to another server, Symantec provides fairly straightforward documentation.  More than once though after the installation and database configuration completes, I’ve seen an error when opening SEPM.
Failed to connect to the server
To resolve the issue, navigate to program files folder Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\conf and open server.xml. The second line shows:  <Server debug=”0″ port=”8005” shutdown=”171577B1C0A8010B008B9B7649B91FB6″> Change the port number to 8006 and save. Voila! Now you can get into the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.

Looking forward, Symantec has announced that it’s next version of Symantec Endpoint Protection, version 12.1, will ship later this year.  It’s available in beta now.
