Filesite bug with Acrobat 8 and higher

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011 | iManage/ FileSite, Technical | Mike Smith

There is a known bug with Autonomy FileSite and Adobe Acrobat versions 8 or higher.  The bug is isolated to saving documents to a workspace via the Acrobat toolbar.  If this “Save to Worksite” button is used, it will cause a crash of Adobe.  To avoid this there are multiple options such as dragging the file to its respective workspace, or using the “Save to WorkSite” from the file menu.

As this is a known issue, there is currently no fix as of this post.  Ensuring users do not use this button by turning off the toolbar will work, but once Acrobat is re-opened, it will be added back.  The only solution is disable the toolbar with a registry edit.

To manually add registry key:

-          Close all open Office and Adobe applications

-          Open the registry, and navigate to:    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Interwoven\Worksite\8.0\Integration\MenuSettings

-          Add a new DWORD titled “Acrobat8bug” and set its value to “1” and restart applcations.

To add via logon script:

-          Create a new text file and add the following to it and save:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Interwoven\Worksite\8.0\Integration\MenuSettings]

“Acrobat8bug”=dword:00000001

-          Rename this file to something like “acrobat_toolbar_fix.reg” changing the extension from “.txt” to “.reg” and place in a share that all users can access

-          Add the following line to your login script:

regedit.exe /s “[path to reg file]\ acrobat_toolbar_fix.reg”
