FileSite folder views in Outlook displaying incorrect column headers

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Occasionally the views applied to various FileSite document folders become corrupt and display the incorrect information for that type of document.  An example would be email-style headers such as To, From, Sent, Received being the column headers for a folder that contains letters.  This will limit what you are able to see.

Verifying the WorkSite IDOL index database for missing or corrupt documents

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

If you are receiving search results that appear to not have documents you are sure should be there, moved your indexer to another server, or the Worksite DiffTool is not resolving missing document issues, this may assist support in tracking down your problem.  To run a check on the database, new indexing and full-text searching will be paused, but explicit SQL searches such as doc number, author, client, etc will still work.

Having inconsistent issues with a ProLaw User?

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

Occasionally a user’s ProLaw will behave inconsistently.  Inconsistent can mean anything from option buttons not showing up, view settings being corrupted or not staying with the users’ customization, or in a recent case for a back office user, she was unable to see the balance of the firm’s accounts.  The box was there, but it was empty, not even showing “$0.0″ or an error, it was simply blank.

Disabling the hidden “Thumbs.db” files

Monday, April 25th, 2011

Many times when working on your local computer’s drives, or through mapped network drives, you will encounter this hidden system file (if hidden and system files are turned on).   A frequent error involves creating a folder on a mapped network drive, copying files to that folder such as PDFs, and trying to rename that folder.  This happens under a few different setups, but primarily when the user’s workstation is either Vista or Windows 7.  You will eventually be able to rename the folder, or delete it, but only after the system stops using the file. There are many different ways to handle and block the creation of these system files.
To block the thumbs.db on your LOCAL computer:

Dis-jointed Network.

Monday, March 7th, 2011

I ran into this while trying to fix a wireless connection at a Clients house last week. Here is the setup:
Juniper Firewall acting as router from internet via Static IP from Qwest.
Juniper Firewall is also a DHCP server for the internal network. It is handing out 192.168.1.X/24 with a gateway address of 192.168.1.1
UsRobotics G-max wireless router and firewall connected to the Juniper Firewall.
This device is getting Wan IP address from the Juniper Firewall via DHCP 192.168.1.2/24. This device is also configured to hand out DHCP of 192.168.1.X/24 with a gateway address of 192.168.1.1.
This was causing a disjointed network error. The wireless would connect but it was limited access. If you plugged a Cat5 cable into the Gmax router you would get the same error.
After doing some research I found that this should have never worked.
I left the IP address and DHCP on the Juniper firewall alone. I changed the IP address on the Gmax Router to hand out DHCP of 10.0.0.X/24. This gives the wireless computers IP addresses of 10.0.0.x/24 with a gateway of 10.0.0.1. The Gmax now gets a DHCP address from the Juniper firewall on the 192.168.1.X network with a gateway of 192.168.1.1.

Filesite bug with Acrobat 8 and higher

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

There is a known bug with Autonomy FileSite and Adobe Acrobat versions 8 or higher.  The bug is isolated to saving documents to a workspace via the Acrobat toolbar.  If this “Save to Worksite” button is used, it will cause a crash of Adobe.  To avoid this there are multiple options such as dragging the file to its respective workspace, or using the “Save to WorkSite” from the file menu.
