Understanding LEDES

LEDES refers to Legal Electronic Data Exchange Standards for pipe delimited text files or .txt with several variations in formatting and data requirements.  The most common of those being LEDES 1998, LEDES 1998B, and LEDES 2000.  This statement type is assigned to matters in ProLaw for electronic invoicing.  Statements generating in the billing process that are assigned this statement type, generate a file that is uploaded through a web interface or email to electronic invoicing companies or “processors”.

Default Address block in Word 2007/2010

For many firms, the default address block format in Word 2007/2010 for envelopes does not contain critical information.  The perfect example, and the one used for this demonstration is adding the company name to the address block.

Auditing ProLaw Events with Item Level Security

It’s sometimes necessary to audit Events in ProLaw that have been secured to a particular Security Group.  Doing so within ProLaw can prove difficult and querying directly against the ProLaw database may be easier.  Of course, before any activities are performed in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, be sure to backup and verify the ProLaw database as unfortunate and unexpected issues can arise.  With your ProLaw database backup completed, the following TSQL queries can provide Item Level Security information:

ProLaw Reporting on Cash Receipts by Professional and Fee Component

ProLaw is unable to generate a cash receipts report for fees which is grouped by billing component.  Upon review of the StmnLedger and StmnDetail tables in the ProLaw database, turns out the components atom is not inserted for fees (i.e., StmnDetail.CompType = ‘F’):
