Error or hang when opening documents from a Document search in ProLaw’s Events module

If you are running ProLaw 11.x and Office 2010, you may occasionally experience this bug.  There may be an error in ProLaw along the lines of “unable to accept the drop” in the Events window.  This only happens with documents from the Events window, they work correctly when opened from the events tab in Matters.

Duplicate entries on ProLaw Prebill or Statement?

Occasionally when testing statement formats, running pre-bills, or printing statements you may find that you have duplicate entries on your bill.  This is most commonly due to the fact that two people have the “Print Prebills and Statements” window open.

Tips for using the Outlook View with ProLaw 12 SP1

Enable Extended Logging in ProLaw XII for troubleshooting

If you are about to open a support ticket or are having issues with ProLaw XII it’s possible to enable extended logging to help troubleshoot the issue.  In order to make this useful, you would need to turn on logging, then attempt to reproduce the error.

Ebills having strange formatting issues in ProLaw?

Recently a client opened a support ticket due to an issue with their ebill statement formats.  Spaces were being “removed” from the final bill.  The reference field for the infomation showed a space between words, but the corresponding txt file that generated showed none!  The ebill files were rejected as a result of the missing space.

Creating Default Report/Statement headers and footers in ProLaw 12

ProLaw 12 does not include any header or footer information on any of the reports or statements by default.  This can be confusing when printing reports or statementsas they are often lengthy and easy to misplace pages.  If you print multiple reports, as most people will before going to the printer, its difficult to tell where one ends and where one begins.  Luckily, ProLaw has made it simple to apply a default header and footer.  This also helps if the firm letterhead changes for statements, you will only need to edit it in one place and then apply to all the statements.

Enabling and using full-text searching in ProLaw

By default full-text searching is disabled in ProLaw.  If you are using ProLaw for your DMS, document management (no other software such as Autonomy integrated) then your firm will likely want to implement full-text searching.
